Wood Range Hoods

Our wood range hoods are made-to-order in the USA (tariff free!) and handcrafted by local artisans utilizing a 2-piece design for an easy installation. This design allows for the base of the hood to be mounted to the wall, ventilation to be installed, and the top to be placed on the base with ease. Before securing the top, inspections can be easily completed by removing the top to review the ventilation.

Wood Range Hood FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

What sizes are available for your wood range hoods?

Our wood range hoods come in a range of widths (typically from 30" up to 60") to match common cooktop and professional range sizes. Exact sizing options are shown on each individual product tile on the collection page. The height of the hood can be reduced in many cases, the chimney can be extended, and the interior depth can be decreased by selecting these options on the product page.

Do wood range hoods include the ventilation inserts or blower units?

Most wood range hoods are decorative surrounds that house your ventilation system — the actual vent insert or blower motor is typically purchased separately. We offer compatible inserts (e.g., Broan or Tradewinds options) directly on the range hood page so you can add them easily during checkout.

Can a wood range hood be painted or stained to match my cabinetry?

Yes. You can order your hood unfinished for complete control over stain or paint, or choose from our factory-applied stains and primed finishes. We also offer affordable hood color samples so you can test finishes before committing.

How do I choose the right finish for my kitchen?

Select a finish that either coordinates with your cabinetry or provides the contrast you want. Consider ordering samples first to see a piece of the real wood hood’s color in your kitchen’s lighting.

What kind of ventilation performance should I expect?

Wood range hoods themselves don’t generate airflow; performance depends on the ventilation insert or blower you pair with them. Choose an insert with sufficient CFM (airflow volume) for your cooking style and range size. Higher CFM is especially important for professional ranges or frequent high-heat cooking.

What makes the Riley & Higgs wood hood design easier to install?

Our hoods use a 2-piece construction: the base mounts first with all ventilation connections completed, and the top canopy installs afterward. This means easier access to the ductwork and inspection points before final installation.

How do I maintain a wood range hood’s finish over time?

Clean the exterior regularly with a soft cloth and mild cleaner (avoid harsh chemicals). Protect finishes from excessive heat and grease (proper ventilation helps here) and consider re-applying protective clear coats in high-use kitchens.

What’s the difference between a primed hood and an unfinished hood?

A primed hood arrives ready for your choice of paint, saving you prep work. An unfinished hood gives you full control over staining or finishing on site, ideal for exact cabinetry matches or custom color schemes.

Will a wood hood work with both ducted and ductless ventilation systems?

Yes. Wood range hood surrounds can accommodate either ducted systems (preferred for best performance) or ductless/recirculating systems if your layout doesn’t allow exterior venting. Just be sure the ventilation insert you choose matches the layout.
